Mercer Landmark :: Mercer Soy :: Our Products

Our Process
Mercer Soy is a completely mechanical process that does not use any chemicals such as organic solvents. Soybeans are subjected to a high temperature short time thermal process in an extruder. This treatment deactivates undesirable enzyme systems, releases the oil for easy separation, and improves the digestibility of protein.

The thermal process is followed by mechanical pressing in a horizontal press to separate the oil. The extracted meal is high in protein, superior in flavor, and rich in beneficial phytochemicals. Because we do not separate the soybean into its components, the natural balance of the nutrients is maintained through the process. Our products are therefore truly natural.

Because of our unique process, our products are of superior flavor compared with conventional counterparts. They retain the antioxidants present in the soybean, and are therefore naturally stable. Our protein products are rich in beneficial phytochemicals such as isoflavones.

Extruded soybeans pass through a machine with a spiral, tapered screw that forces them through a tapered head. In the process the soybeans are ground into a meal and heated.

Our Meal
Mercer Soy is an expeller processed soy protein.

Mercer Soy provides a consistent source of high quality protein and amino acids for high producing dairy cows and finishing steer diets. Mercer Soy provides a rich source of added energy, with a fat content of 6%. The protein content is 43% as fed and the 4% fiber comes from highly digestible soy hulls. The higher dry matter content (about 5% higher than regular soy) of the Mercer Soy meal provides additional value in every ton and helps maintain improved flow-ability. The meal is manufactured under strict quality control guidelines to produce a bypass soybean meal that has consistent particle size and color.

The bypass protein in the Mercer Soy is a high quality bypass protein that compliments the amino acid needs of high producing dairy cows. The “in situ” rumen bypass measurements have been measured and tested at the F.A.R.M.E. Institute Lab in central New York to show a high bypass protein level of 55%. On-going quality assurance analysis is being done regularly to assure quality.

Mercer Soy will generally replace the regular soybean meal and much of the other bypass protein products in rations. Normal feeding rates for lactating dairy cows will range from 4 to 8 pounds per head per day, depending on the ration forages and production goals. We suggest that you consult with your Mercer Landmark feed consultant to determine the optimum rate.

Expeller Oil Press - The hot meal from the extruder is run through the press and the oil is separated from the meal.

Our Oil
Mercer Soy Oil is a natural vegetable oil expelled from the meal during manufacturing. This oil can be refined into quality all natural zero trans fat cooking oil, or used for bio diesel manufacturing. Our oil is the perfect compliment for livestock diets because it is an all natural vegetable oil that works extremely well in the diets of young growing animals.
